A collection of small-ensemble jazz from 1927 to 1956 featuring all manner of strings (primarily violin, but also cello, guitar, upright bass, etc.), most with other accompaniment, a few with vocals. While the names of these artists might not be familiar to modern audiences, most are well-known among enthusiasts of jazz violin history.

Some of the tunes are original ("Leaky Faucet," "Jed & Elme," "Kiddin' on the Strings"), others are covers of Tin Pan Alley standards ("Exactly Like You," "Polka Dots & Moonbeams," "Oh, Lady Be Good"), some are adaptations of classical and opera works ("Humoresque in Swing Time," "Liebestraum"), and a few are admittedly strange ("Strange Harmony," "Strange Blues").
