about

A second collection of small-ensemble jazz from 1933 to 1958 featuring all manner of strings (primarily violin, but also cello, guitar, upright bass, etc.), most with other accompaniment, a few with vocals. While the names of these artists might not be familiar to modern audiences, most are well-known among enthusiasts of jazz violin history.

Some of the tunes are original ("Gymnastics," "Tail Spin," "Professor Visits Harlem"), others are covers of Tin Pan Alley standards ("Am I Blue?," "Honeysuckle Rose," "My Blue Heaven"), while some are adaptations of classical and opera works ("Shoot The Schubert to Me Hubert," "La Cinquantaine").
